Street photography has become very popular in recent years. The style was created by people like Henri Cartier Bresson, Joel Myrowitz and William Klein, plus a recent discovery of a significant body of work by Vivian Maier.
Street photography is the observation of odd moments of street life, often made a bit stranger by the framing of the picture.
When you enclose things within a photo frame, they appear to be related to each other in some way, even if they are not in related in the real world. Also, the frame excludes other elements that clarify the real meaning of the scene. By careful framing, the photographer takes pictures that can look a bit surreal and magical.
In fact, making the everyday look magical again is probably the main point of street photography.
Pictures are not usually set-up, staged or Photoshopped.
