this is a major TV documentary series on human relationship with the planet, with the opening programme looking at the ocean.
The film footage is fantastic. What is most useful for people studying photography is the quality of the visuals - they are all carefully composed and photographed. They also clearly tell a visual story, with text or words taking a smaller role.
For HNC people who are trying to put together a documentary, it is helpful to watch these programmes and see how the visual story telling is put together. Each programme has several episodes, and each episode tells a clear story, with a sequence of scene setting pictures, details, dramatic scenes, reaction shots, relationship pictures etc.
As an experiment, I did a set of screen grabs, (apple, shift, 3) to freeze key scenes, creating a set of stills from one episode. It gives a clear idea about how to put together a documentary series, and also shows what a wide range of shots is required. Try the movie link to see the stills:
